Children's Ministry

Love the Lord your God with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.    Deuteronomy 6:5-7

First Holy Communion Classes**

Each year we offer a series for parents and children entitled, “Celebrating Holy Communion.” This series is designed to prepare children for their First Holy Communion as well as to serve as an opportunity for parents, who may have been receiving Communion for some time, to study celebrating Communion with their child. This series is open to children in grades 2 and up. Registration began in January 2008. Parents may register their children by calling the Children's Ministry office. A nursery is available by reservation for younger children of the family.

Class Schedule:

Parents only                    9:15 a.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2008
Parents and children        4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27 and March 12, 2008

Children will celebrate their First Holy Communion on Maundy Thursday, March 20, 2008.

The Blessing

During Communion, children who have not yet celebrated their First Holy Communion are invited to receive a blessing from the clergy at the altar rail. The desire for a blessing is communicated to the clergy by having the child cross their arms, placing their hands up onto their shoulders.

Lay Ministry Opportunities

The Children's Ministry is supported by a lot of prayer and by the sacrificial service of many of our parishioners who shepherd our children. If you are gifted with a joyful spirit in sharing the Gospel and the love our Lord and feel led to share your time and talents serving our youngest members, please call Linda Tully, Children's Ministry Director.
