Mission through Adult Discipleship
Discipling and equipping God's people to think and act biblically,
enabling them to grow into the full stature off Christ.
enabling them to grow into the full stature off Christ.
Here at St. Helena’s, we anchor our discipleship in God’s Word. In it, we discover who God is, who we are, and who we are called to be. St. Paul tells us that God’s Word is living and breathing, sharper than a two-edged sword. In God’s Word, we learn that God has designed life, abundant life, for us. In it, we discover the promise that His Word will accomplish the purpose for which He sent it.
There are three essential ways to study God’s Word: Preached and taught, personally, and together with other believers. It is important that we engage in all three as we seek to grow in Christ.
• Preached and Taught. Learning from those God has gifted to preach and teach His Word is used by the Lord to equip us with a Christian worldview or, as we in Adult Discipleship phrase it, “the ability to think and act biblically.”• Personally. As we read and meditate individually on God’s Word, His Spirit speaks to us and confirms His truth, equipping us to live all our life to the glory of His name.
• Together with Other Believers. It is in this setting that we encounter God’s grace through biblical relationships with each other. As we read and discuss God’s Word together, the Holy Spirit works in us, building us up in love, equipping us to serve as faithful stewards of God’s grace. In essence, God is using our shared life to do just what He did in Antioch–proclaim His kingdom in our lives and witness to the world.
At St. Helena's, you will find many opportunities to join us in growing in grace through the study of God’s Word. If we can be of assistance, please feel welcome to schedule a time to meet with us or any member of the clergy.
