Inreach

Inreach Commission

The Inreach Commission at The Parish Church of St. Helena provides support through Christian caregiving to members of our parish.

Lay Ministry Opportunities

Homebound Telephone Ministry

The volunteers extend care by phoning homebound members each week to check on them, updating them on activities, answering questions, and just visiting. If you would like to join this ministry or know of someone who would like to receive a weekly call, contact Sandy Bergwall at 838-1470.

Stephen Ministry
Christian Caregiving

Stephen Ministers are trained to work with people who are struggling through life’s problems:  dealing with grief, divorce, loneliness, relocation, hospitalization, unemployment, chronic or terminal illness, and other life situations which cause distress. The Christian caregiving approach is nonjudgmental and assists the care receiver to work through his or her problems. The care is strictly confidential and no records are kept. If you would like to receive care or are close to someone who would, or if you would like to inquire about becoming a Stephen Minister, please call us.

Nursing Home Ministry

We have members who can visit those residing at one of the nursing homes or assisted-living facilities. Family members should notify the church if there is someone who would like to be visited. If you would like to become a visitor, please call Marcia Seymour at 521-0778.

Hospital Ministry

These are dedicated parishioners who regularly visit members who are hospitalized at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. We have liaisons with Episcopal hospital visitors (clergy and/or lay people) in both Savannah and Charleston and can arrange for timely visits to St. Helena’s parishioners who are hospitalized in those cities. A privacy law prevents Beaufort Memorial Hospital from providing us with a list of Episcopalians who are registered. It is important for family members to notify the church office whenever someone is hospitalized.

Helping Hands
For short-term, practical help

This group of volunteers offers short-term, practical help. Most services have been for families with new babies or post hospitalization. If you could make a meal for a family or drive someone to an appointment or if you know someone who could use this service, please call Josie Paddock at 838-4343 or Kim Loflin at 524-9511.

Bereavement Committee

This active group provides support and assistance to parish families at the time of a family member’s death. Our function is to arrange for a simple reception at the church or to provide a meal in the home for the immediate family.

Sunshine Communications

Under the auspices of the ECW and the Inreach Commission, appropriate greeting cards are sent to parishioners who are sick or bereaved. This is another way to show how much we care about our parish family.
